The Felling of Nortlend
The region of Gourn is located in the far north and is isolated from much of the modern world by water and mountains. The Everlasting Pass through the Robung Mountains does connect it to Havern and through that the rest of the world. Gourn is inhabited by the shortfolk as a whole; gnomes, halflings, and dwarves. Out of those 3 dwarves are the primary race. They look upon the other two as a half child half slave mix. They are expected to do all of the nasty tasks nobody else wants to but are treated with care, like a farmer’s prized work horse. It is believed that this relationship spawned in the year 50 SER when during the rebuilding of Gourn, a boat full of gnome and halfling children washed up on the Eastern Shore. The dwarves treated them with sympathy but at the same time put them to work. The aboveground capital of Gourn, Buerl, was left largely intact during the Erasure but the remaining territory was riddled with fissures and ruins. Their belowground empire on the otherhand was completely cut off, all entrances barred. Dwarves of that time and today do not have the knowledge their great ancestors possessed and therefore have been unable to reclaim these great citys.
